Cyber-Yugo Disclaimer
There is no
intention to defend the project as non-yugo- nostalgic. It is, indeed. Raccoon
believes that 'nostalgia' is normal and expectable among majority of people who
were not interested in war, secession, changing flags, etc. We believe that
those feelings need to be addressed and dealt with. This is an art project rich
in irony. It uses a symbol that is easily recognizable by everyone. It gives a
new - virtual - life to something that is now dead. It creates an interactive
museum piece. It does not either re- create or advocate re-creation of
Yugoslavia. It, instead, places both Yugo and Yugoslavia in a museum. With
involving young people from the region in building this piece, we are engaging
in a process of edu-tainment, not politics. This little, quite undervalued, car
is a symbol of resilience and resourcefulness of Southern Slavs in that rather
brief period of history when they were not divided and fighting each other on
behalf of their foreign masters. This memory we pledge to preserve.
