Ivan Stojakovic is from Belgrade. After living in Canada for 5 years, he
moved to New York where he is currently attending Pratt Institute in
pursuit of his MFA degree in painting.
Ivan's paintings emerge through improvising and editing directed spills,
drips and sprays of wood stain, aluminum and alkyd paint on canvas.
Mutations occur through material interactions resulting in surface
ornaments and in images of transformed entities. Forms develop as
representations of environments in which organic principles of nature are
confronting the high-tech and the synthetic. The paintings explore
perception resulting from a symbiosis of organic and artificial
components.
